Alexander Tikhonov secures Men’s 400m IM gold – Swimming news
Alexander Tikhonov of Moscow secured gold medal in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on fifth day of the 2013 Russian National Swimming Championships in Moscow on Thursday, June 20.
The Russian swimmer showed no mercy to his opponents in the distant IM discipline as he remained in a prominent lead over his competitor. He faced little challenge from his competitors in the playoff and emerged on the finishing end for first position.
With his notable form, Tikhonov remained in a lead of two body lengths over his following swimmer as he tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 19.52 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Ivan Trofmov of Penza, who was 2.10 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 21.62 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Sergei Strelnikov of Volgagrad, who was prominently slower from his preceding finisher and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 22.58 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Dmitry Gorbunov of Penza, who was nearly four body lengths away from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 26.19 seconds.
Similarly, Kirill Strelnikov of Saint Petersburg, who was 0.99 seconds apart and concluded his race in fifth place by producing an effort 4 minutes and 27.18 seconds, chased Gorbunov.
Sixth spot of the discipline was secured by Sergei Kashpersky of Moscow, who was only 0.15 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 27.33 seconds.
Denis Okunev of Penza region, who was nearly 0.80 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 28.16 seconds, obtained seventh spot of the discipline.
Last spot of the race was secured by Boris Kulizhnikov of Moscow, who finished eighth in the race with the timing of 4 minutes and 29.57 seconds.
In addition, Tikhonov was happy with his top finish in the event and collected medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
