Alexandra Wenk wins Women’s 50m butterfly gold: Day five – German Olympic Trials
Alexandra Wenk of SG Stadtwerke Munchen won gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly final on fifth day of the 2012 German Olympic Trials in Berlin on May 14.
Wenk stayed considerably faster from her challengers from the start of the race and with her continued efforts, she reached the finishing wall for the title of the event.
She showed no mercy to her challengers throughout the discipline and emerged on the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a wonderful time of 26.87 seconds.
The champion was followed by Sina Sutter of SG Essen, who remained almost two strokes behind and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a nice time of 27.02 seconds.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Paulina Schmiedel of SG Essen, who remained only 0.10 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 27.12 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Doris Eichhorn of Aqua Berlin, who was only 0.03 seconds away from securing her place on the medal rostrum and ended her swim in fourth place by producing a time of 27.15 seconds.
Subsequently, the crowd experienced exhausting efforts of Janina Herbst of Aqua Sports Delligsen, who stayed nearly three strokes away and completed her race in a time of 27.43 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the event was secured by Saskia Donat of SSG Leipzig, who was only 0.05 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 27.48 seconds.
Donat was followed by Elena Czeschner of SG Schwabmünchen-Nordlingen 06, who was 0.07 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for seventh position with the timing of 27.55 seconds.
Eighth position of the 50m discipline was secured by Franziska Hentke of SC Magdeburg, who remained one and a half stroke behind and clocked a time of 27.73 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants in the 50m discipline while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for their alluring efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
