Alexandre Bias signs with BA Brive to mark his return after recovering from cancer - Rugby
French Top 14 outfit, Club Athlétique Brive Corrèze Limousin commonly known as CA Brive or Brive, has acquired the services of former French Under-21s and Under-19s utility player, Alexandre Bias.
The club has confirmed the signing of their former utility player Bias, in a statement released on their website on Thursday, August 4. Brive was handed over a one-year professional contract to Bias which will last until the end of the 2011/12 Top 14 season.
Earlier, Bias joined Brive in 1999 season and parted ways with the club at the end of the 2002 French Top 14 season.
In 2009, Bias was diagnosed with Lymph Cancer, commonly known as Hodgkins disease. He has now made his return to the professional rugby after battling out the life threatening disease.
The 30-year-old Bias has successfully served a month-long trial period with Brive. His fitness, hard work and commitment have earned him a comeback professional contract with the club.
Brive head coach, Ugo Mola, has expressed his satisfaction with the fitness level of Bias and has praised Bias’ personality attributes. He added, “His (Bias) state of mind and his fighting qualities are real value for the professional working environment
at Brive.”
Bias started his career as winger but was later continuously featured in the second row and front row forwards position. He is expected to take the role of a loose forward prop for Brive in their next season campaign.
Bias has expressed his delight on the contract. He said, “I am delighted to return to play for Brive and am impatient to pull on the jersey competitively. I have been waiting two years for this moment, to sign for a club.”
Bias was the part of the France Under-19 national rugby union team which lifted the International Rugby Board’s Under-19 World Championship in 2000. He has also played in France’s Under-21 side. Besides Brive, Bias has also represented Caster and Bourgoin
in his career so far.
