Young French striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130’ only Lyon-born player. the youngster has been at the club all his life and knows the importance of the rivalry between Rhone neighbours AS Saint-Etienne.
The two Rhone sides meet at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard today and Lacazette has once again demonstrated that there is certainly no love lost between the two sides.
Lacazette is Lyon through and through and his feelings towards Les Verts force him to perform well against a team that is currently above them in the Ligue 1 standings.
While talking to the media, the striker said that his side has a great record against ASSE and added that the game against Galtier’s men always brings the best out of Les Gones. Lacazette also indicated that many people who are not from Lyon do not fully
understand the importance of this particular fixture.
“People who aren't from Lyon don't really feel the rivalry in their bones like I do, and that's what the fans are there for: to remind them that this is a hugely important match for the club."
The 20-year-old has certainly done well for Remi Garde’s side. So far, the youngster has scored 4 goals in 19 Ligue 1 games. Furthermore, Lacazette is proud of being a Lyon player and wants to keep his personal record against ASSE the way it always has been.
"With some teams, we don't care if they finish above us or below us, but the important thing is always to finish higher than Saint-Etienne. I've only ever lost to them once, and that was in the U-12s."
Bragging rights set aside, Olympique Lyonnais know that they must win the game against their bitter rivals who are currently three points above them in the Ligue 1 standings. AS Saint-Etienne do have a great chance of playing in the Champions League which
is something that Lyon also want.
However, judging by recent form, the game could be a crunch derby and every blade of grass would be contested for.
