Alexandre Vinokourov crashes out from 2011 Tour de France
Alexandre Vinokourov is already out of 2011 Tour de France as he was involved in a massive crash this Sunday on July 10. Vinokourov, who was taking part in his last Tour, failed to complete the day with 90 kilometres to go. This news was revealed by the
team's official on July 13.
Andriy Grivko, who also rides for Astana, was quite motivational during the six-men breakaway that preceded the Lavaur's bunch sprint. His dream of winning the stage 11 faded away close to finish.
First words by Andriy were for the captain of their team, Alexandre Vinokourov, who is getting his strength back after a hip operation at La Pitie Salpetriere Hospital in Paris.
Grivko said, “Our goal is to win a stage. The only way to get it is to make a breakaway like todays. I was feeling well and that was a good breakaway with riders of great quality. It’s a pity we didn’t succeed because we had a nice advantage and the work
in the group was very good. Unfortunately, with ten kilometers to go, the direction of the wind radically changed from tail to head.”
Grivko rode Tour de France in 2006 when he was in his second year pro. He remained un-noticed. His role, although, was vital as he was the fifth man of the break-way along with Jens Voigt, Oscar Pereiro, Sylvain Chavanel and Manuel Quinziato during stage
13 to Montelimar.
The 28-year-old is considered to be the most reliable team player amongst his team and is quite hopeful to give a boost-up performance as the tour proceeds towards the final phase of the tour.
He was eager to talk about Vinokourov as he expressed how their team has to change the whole plan after his crash. Vinokourov message for his team was to keep fighting and perform their best in the tour.
Whole of Astana team are looking for Vinokourov’s quick recovery as they talk about his goals for the tour and that his only dream was to do well in Tour de France. It is really unfortunate how this tour ended-up for Grivko, as he was quite positive that
his team will continue to perform well in the tour.
