Question:

Alexei Romanov's gem tunic?

I read the article on Wikipedia about Alexei Romanov, Tsarevich of Russia. In it, it had excerpts from Yakov Yurovsky's, the man who carried out Alexei's assassination, memoirs. It said that Alexei did not die from being shot or stabbed at first because he was wearing, "a shirt wrapped in precious gems that he wore beneath his tunic."

Anyway, I was wondering if the archaeologists found that shirt in Alexei's recently discovered grave-site, or if the assassins stole it once they discovered Alexei was wearing it? Also, I was wondering what gems it was made out of?

Thanks in advance! ^_^

  1. As far as I know, I've only heard of the Czarina and the Grand Duchesses  having jewels sewn into their skirts, although that was never proven. Any jewels or valuables were probably taken by soldiers when the family was shot and buried as both their clothes and their bodies were supposedly soaked in acid before burying. If they were found, I assume we would have heard about it. The recent grave excavations only found partial skeletons, and a few relics, such as cloth and bullets.

  2. tunic as in skirt?
