Alexey Polyakov and Louise Dee pocket 800m freestyle titles - 13th European Masters Championships
Alexey Polyakov of Russia and Louise Dee Viktoria Delani of Denmark pocketed the gold medals of Men’s and Women’s 800m freestyle respectively, on the first day of the 13th European Masters Championships, taking place in Yalta,
Ukraine.
Polyakov showered his expertise in the Men’s distant freestyle event, where he touched the wall first in a gold winning time of 9 minutes and 10.36 seconds. The arena was impressed with such a laudable effort of the 26-year-old champion in the freestyle
discipline.
He was followed by his team-member, Sergey Alchebaev, who earned the silver medal of the event with a timing of 9 minutes and 25.19 seconds. The bronze medal of the Men’s event was secured by Francesco Viola of Italy, who clocked a time of 9 minutes and
30.89 seconds.
Viola was in a lead of 1.91 seconds over his following swimmer, Formanek Rene of Austria, who ended up fourth and posted a timing of 9 minutes and 32.80 seconds. The fifth position was secured by Mark Billyard of Great Britain, who clocked a time of 9 minutes
and 45.03 seconds.
Later on, Viktoria Delani captured the title of the equivalent event in Women’s category, where she posted a nice time of 9 minutes and 48.06 seconds. She was in a lead of almost eleven seconds over second position holder, Marit Bloemer of Germany, who reported
a time of 9 minutes and 59.02 seconds for silver medal. After a while, Emma Ross of Great Britain completed her swim with a third fastest time of 10 minutes and 19.36 seconds to obtain the bronze medal of the distant freestyle swim.
Natalia Samorodyna of Ukraine emerged as the fourth position holder of the event, as she ended her swim in 11 minutes and 07.73 seconds. She was trailed by Elena Starodubtseva of Spain, who settled as the fifth position holder of the event in a time of 11
minutes and 12.65 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of scheduled events, while the championship will continue for three more days to complete all the meets.
