Alexey Yakimenko leads the Individual Men’s Sabre in the 2010-11 World Rankings
The International Fencing Federation, FIE, has updated the rankings for Men’s Individual Sabre after the World Cup tournaments conducted during the month of June. The Russian Alexey Yakimenko is leading the Sabre discipline of Men’s Individual.
Yakimenko took part in the two events during the month of June. On June 4, he travelled to Varsovie for Sabre Grand Prix. He amazingly remained undefeated during the pool matches and direct elimination round. In the semi-final round, he defeated the Italian
Giampiero Pastore with a near score of 15-13. In the final bout, he defeated the Korean, Woo young Woo, and captured the gold medal of the event. He acquired 48 points with first rank in the Grand Prix event.
Yakimenko’s next challenge was 2011 New York World Cup for Men’s Sabre that was conducted on June 24 in United States. He captured another gold medal victory by defeating the world number one ranked, Nicolas Limbach of France in the final round with a score
of 15-9. He took a total 32 points in the 2011 New York Sabre World Cup. In this way, Yakimenko not only grabbed all the gold medals in the month of June, but also conquered the first place in the World Rankings over Nicolas Limbach.
Last Month, Yakimenko was in the second spot with an overall 228 points. This month, he is on the top of the 2010-11 rankings. Yakimenko had already ranked in the first spot first in 2005 and 2007. He is also a bronze medallist in the 2005 World Championships.
