Alexi Ogando awarded fifth slot in rotation as Brett Tomko heads to the Minor League – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers has declared their final 25-man roster by the team manager Ron Washington. Alexi Ogando was given the green-light to take his position up in the fifth slot of the rotation, while Mason Tobin was given the room to join the roster. The club
was able to make critical decisions at the fore-front as spring training moved a day away from closing.
Pedro Strop was another man given the green-light for his role in the squad. Chris Davis and Brett Tomko, on the other hand, were not as lucky as they were sent to the Minor Leagues, as a consequence. Ogando had a five inning outing against Seattle’s Double
A team affiliate on the 20 March. That role was served best with a concession of no run and seven strike-outs.
The player is set to start soon and through Monday, he registered no wins and two losses, with an earning runs average of 5.06. Washington was able to talk of the young pitcher, before Tuesday’s game against the Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach.
"Ogando is going to be our fifth starter," said manager Ron Washington. "Those are the decisions we made today, and we feel pretty good going into Friday."
The decisions passed on will be re-evaluated once the day ends, as relief pitching issues need to be addressed.
"I think we've put the finishing touches on our bullpen," Washington said.
Tomko on the other hand is going to Triple-A Round Rock. His earned run average of 5 in 18 innings was an indication of his ouster from the first team.
"He just needs to pitch. He's our depth," Washington said. "He threw well enough in Spring Training to make this club. But, you know, with the youth that we have in our rotation, and a few of the guys who we've depended on as our starters down, we've got
to make sure we've got [ourselves] covered. He's certainly covers us in that respect."
With Ogando in the rotation, the Rangers will hope the problems stop there. With Tommy Hunter out, they surely do not want another blow to the rotation.
