Alexi Ogando shines as Texas Rangers defeat Los Angeles Angels 7-0 – MLB Update
Alexi Ogando destroyed the Los Angeles Angels’ batting line-up and took the Texas Rangers to a 7-0 shut-out in the three-game series-opener at the Angels Stadium in Anaheim on Tuesday, July 19.
The 27-year-old right-hander crushed the Angels with his swinging sinkers, allowing only four hits and three walks over eight innings. He also struck-out five batters to grab his tenth win. Making his 18th start in front of a packed stadium, the
Dominican tossed 74 strikes of 116 innings. This win improved his record to 10-3 with a 2.72 ERA.
He received full support from the batters, who keep on scoring until they finalised a 7-0 win. Adrian Beltre drove in to left-field to kick the game off in the first inning and Ian Kinsler touched to right-field in the fourth inning to take the lead to 2-0.
Michael Young singled in the fifth and Eric Chavez launched the first homer of the game to right-field. His home-run marked the Rangers’ fifth run in the eighth inning.
Then in the ninth inning, left-fielder Josh Hamilton hammered a dazzling one-run homer to elevate the lead to 6-0. Adrian Beltre followed Hamilton and launched a devastating one-run homer to post 7-0 in the top of the seventh inning.
Taking this win the Rangers has improved their record to 56-41. It was their 25th road win of the season. The Angels, on the other hand, received their 26th home defeat in their overall 46 losses.
The Angels’ starter Tyler Chatwood allowed three runs, seven hits, four walks and struck-out one batter over five innings. He went for his sixth loss and his record dropped to 5-6 with 3.71 ERA in 18 starts this season.
Reliever Rich Thompson resisted strongly as he tossed just over two innings and struck-out two batters over his 32 pitches. Closer Michael Kohn has a nightmare game as he allowed three home runs over short one inning spell. He consumed four runs on four
hits and walked two batters. Although Kohn was costly and became a source of the win for the Rangers, he still managed to escape 23 strikes of 39 pitches.
For the upcoming second match-up of the series at the same venue, the Angels now have scheduled their reliable starter Dan Haren, but his defeat in the last game against the Oakland Athletics can be a hurdle in his way to his eleventh win in the season.
