Alexi Ogando yet to be named as starting pitcher for Texas Rangers – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington on Tuesday, February 28, declined to comment on whether or not Alexi Ogando will be among the starters this season. Provided Ogando’s name is endorsed, the Rangers will have a six-man rotation.
However, that possibility has not lent much credence by the team manager. However, he did not completely dismiss the possibility of bringing Ogando as the starter. "That's nothing we've discussed," Washington said. "Anything is possible, but we haven't discussed
anything like that."
There remains not even an iota of doubt that the Rangers are equipped and supplied with some of the best arms this season. Starting from Derek Holland to Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz, Colby Lewis and Alexi Ogando, the list goes on with more power
and prominence adorning it.
While the Texas Rangers’ dream of becoming the World Series Champions did not materialise the past season, there is a possibility they realise this dream. In 2011, the likes of Ogando and Harrison, quite to the consternation of the Rangers, struggled and
could not retain the consistency that characterised their run throughout the season.
However, there is no sense of disappointment in the club now as they are focusing on the future. Neftali Feliz and Yu Darvish will be two other key players whose presence on the mound may herald something bigger for the Rangers.
They may have been burdened with increased workload in the throwing sessions here, but the team manager thinks they both can handle it.
"Every individual is different," Washington said. "We'll watch and see what happens. If we have to step in, we will. But both of those guys are horses, even thoroughbreds. Watch and see."
There is little doubt that each pitcher in the bullpen is looking forward to doing his bid this time round. But all eyes will definitely be set on the youngsters like Ogando and Darvish. How do these pitcher reciprocate shall be seen closely once the season
kicks off. Ogando, in particular, will be looked closely owing to the talent and force he combines as a young pitcher.
