Alexis Altmaier and William Raynor win swimming events -
High School State Championships, Nebraska
Alexis Altmaier of Lincoln East and Neil Girmus of Creighton Prep dominated the playoffs of Girls and Boys 200yard Individual Medley (IM) respectively on closing day of the Nebraska High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Lincoln on February
28.
Altmaier went full throttle in the mediocre distance IM event and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. She experienced strong resistance from Erin Oeltjen of Millard West, but managed to out-touch her on the finishing end.
Altmaier occupied gold medal of the 200yard discipline by clocking a dazzling time 2 minutes and 09.19 seconds. With her commendable efforts, she remained 0.32 seconds ahead of Oeltjen, who followed her on the finishing wall for second position by producing
an effort of 2 minutes and 09.51 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Sophia Nelson of Lincoln Southwest, who remained 2.20 seconds slower from overpowering her foregoing competitor and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.71 seconds. Nelson stayed just 0.18 seconds away
from her subsequent competitor, Elaina Blair of Omaha Westside, who settled on the wall for fourth finest spot with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.89 seconds.
Afterwards, Raynor excelled in the Boys equivalent event, where he captured gold medal of the event by posting a top fastest time of 1 minute and 50.63 seconds. With his exceptional efforts, he stayed comfortably ahead of his teammate, Clarence Landon, who
remained second best finisher of the event as he posted a time of 1 minute and 56.83 seconds.
He was followed by Garrett Cadotte of Ralston/Gross, who accomplished bronze medal of the swim by submitting a time of 1 minute and 57.36 seconds. Cadotte maintained a lead of nearly two seconds over Landon’s team-member, Ryan Tate, who seized fourth position
of the discipline by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.74 seconds.
In addition, the arena went wild with the thrilling performances of all teenage swimmers in their main events whereas the position holders were called upon the medal rostrum for awards and accolades after the session.
