Alexis arguello vs aaron pryor?

does anybody remember this fight?& if you do remember,we all know aaron pryor cheated..aaron pryor was getting a spanking and by the 13th round pryor was exhausted.inbetween rounds the camera man got on footage panama lewis(dirtiest trainer of all time)ask for the other bottle,the one he mixed.the only fluid allowed in the boxers corner is water.so you dont mix water with water and obviously there was a stimulant in that bottle.an exhausted pryor drank from that bottle & all of a sudden gained extra strength and tkoed arguello in the 14th round..after the fight they questioned panama lewis about the black bottle and panama claimed it was selzer water.so than why did aaron pryor refuse a drug test after the fight?and every body knows after that fight arguello was never the same,he lost his prime in that one fight against a dirty drug adict.and just so you ppl know,panama lewis got banned because of his cheating tactics,in one fight lewis took the padding out the gloves of his fighter!

Got the fight here at home,Panama can be heard saying 'Gimme the water bottle,the one that I mixed!speaks for itself,you don't have anything in the corner'mixed'other than pure water,then Pryor came out like a man possessed!!!I'm still baffled as to why there was never an inquiry after that fight,seltzer water doesn't do that to a beaten fighter,it's unlikely you'll ever get another Lewis cos of regulations but Arguello was a true gent and never spoke of the fight critically which says a lot about the guy.

Wow, thanks for the history lesson, I really didn't know that. I remember the fight becouse Pryor was almost looking at the ref to see if he was going to stop the fight when he hit Aguello with a couple of fierce unanswered punches and if I remember correctly Arguello promised his daughter he would shave of his mustache if he lost the fight, also I believe that Pryor's girlfriend shot him in the arm about 6 months before that fight. Too bad, I really liked Aron Pryor.

There is nothing you could have put in that bottle that would have help Aaron Pryor. Pryor was just a better fighter as he proved in the rematch. I love Alexis Arguello but Pryor was a beast in that fight. So what your tell me is as soon as Pryor drank out of that bottle the substance went straight into his blood system what round did he drink from the bottle. For thoes of you who may have forgotten Aaron Pryor was and Olympic Gold Medalest and an undefeeted fighter when  he fought and KOd Arguello. The best man won. I do have a trivia question for you all . Who was the only fighter to beat Aaron Pryor he was my stable mate.

Yes, we remember the fight, and Lewis saying give me the special bottle.

Lewis was banned from boxing later.

Arguello was going up in weight and was better at a lighter weight.

Yes, this all tue.  Arguello wins that fight without the 'special' help. Then he could have retired in peace.

This is not even a real question, you are just ranting.  Yes, Panama Lewis did cheat and gave Pryor something in that bottle.  However, Pryor did not win because of that, and Arguello was not giving Pryor "a spanking"- the fight was really close up until that point.  It takes longer than 1 minute for something to get into your blood stream, and Pryor won that night simply because he was the better fighter and the better man that night.  And to erase any doubts, he beat Arguello even more convincingly in the rematch.  And at the post fight press conference for the rematch, Arguello himself stated that "I just cannot beat this man, and I don't want to endanger my health for it."  Arguello was fighting at 140 pounds, which is not where he was best suited at, and Pryor was just too much of a windmill offensively for him to deal with at that weight.  I don't care who was in Pryor's corner that night- he was not going to lose to ANYONE that night...

They also let Pryor get away without a post-fight drug test which was a rule in title fights. Seems like the fix was in????

There are some things to point out here.  IF anyone could be blamed for any wrong doing it's the commission and governing bodies.  Long before that fight it was their job to make sure all is fair in each corner.   They inspect the hand wrapping before each fight and do other tests and checks.  

Lewis is certainly a dirty character but he, as all trainers and cornermen, should be checked out before ANY fight.  I don't remember Pryor losing the fight before that point in the fight.  Still you MUST wonder what could be mixed if there is only supposed to be water in the corner.  

ALL fighters should take tests BEFORE and AFTER each fight.  If I am not mistaken it is mandatory and has been so for quite some time.  If a fighter refuses he should be stripped of the title immediately.  I don't remember if Pryor refused or if the commission simply neglected to conduct a test.  

I have known some trainers to use seltzer water to settle a fighter's stomach.  Still the commission should ALWAYS know what is being given to a fighter in the corner.  

It's surprising that a fight involving a high profile, and well admired fighter like Arguello would involve any wrong doing without SOMEONE knowing before hand.  

I have always held onto the hope that it could be proven that Pryor won fairly and that there was no dirty business.  Im a boxing fan first and would like to think my favorite sport is clean.   Its a shame we will never know.
