  1. everyone should drive an alfa at least once i have one 8years old great driver.

  2. Chagne the cam belt immediately!  eBay has a lot of these cars on there, with wrecked engines from cam belt failure.

  3. that seems pretty good to me. if your going ti buy it though you should check it out well because you never know what could be lurking underneath that lovely italian body.

    my dad has a 156 1.8 t-spark which is 5 years old. its been quite reliable in general but there have been little problems which have been annoying like the bonnet and boot not opening! (check these before you buy, they are really annoying!)

    alfa's have improved their reliability a lot in recent years but the name is still associated with alfa's dodgy reliability history. if you do decide to buy prepare for serious depreciation because people still arent convinced with alfa's reliability

  4. Use a valuations website. This one is free and I use it:

    www.whatcar.com/valuations

    It will be in Pounds, but you can always convert to Euros etc.

  5. Hi;

    Good unbiased opinions here;

    Looks like Evelyn is the only owner in the world of a reliable Alfa!

    I think it's expensive: You can pick up loads from around £1000;

    People generally can't get rid of them quick enough. You just know it's gonna let you down - if you still fancy it, get AA membership & keep your fingers crossed.

  6. I'm reckoning that to be about £2,000, for what in the UK would be a 02/52 plate. It's a fairly good price, depending on what engine size the car is. Strangely it's the 1.8TS that's not favoured, as the 1.6 goes nearly as well and has better fuel economy and (I think) comes in a lower tax bracket, if such things affect you. The 2.0TS is the one to have, given its VVT and better brakes. I've got one and it's a fantastic car! Top speed over 130mph, yet I get over 30mpg from it in mixed driving.

    All the usual advice will apply about checking service history & condition, but do be aware that these cars don't like being run on a tight budget, they can generate some BMW-sized bills! Also be aware that the 36k/3 year cambelt swap can cost £3-400 if all the tensioners and variator are done at the same time, which they should be.

    If it's in good nick, buy it!

    PS, you'll no doubt get some wise-*** pub bore telling you they rust and the electricals are poor. Mine's 7 years old, not a speck of rust, and works perfectly!
