Alfian Eko, Gloria Emanuelle march into second round of Vietnam International Challenge 2012
The mixed doubles pair of Indonesia Alfian Eko Prasetya-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja marched into the second round of Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge on March 28, 2012.
They overpowered the opponent duo Razif Abdul Latif-Amelia Alicia Anscelly of Malaysia with final figures of 21-15, 17-21 and 21-14.
The twosome of Alfian Eko and Gloria Emanuelle was a feast for the eyes throughout the 40-minute match and they masterly surpassed the first round hurdle to set up a tussle with Taipei couple Chu En Huang-Mei Ching Huang in second round of the event.
The Indonesians set the foundation of 2-1 victory by grabbing the first match point straight away. They completely controlled the pace of the rallies and did not allow their rivals to catch them on the score board until the final score of 21-15 in the first
set.
The story was different in following set as the partnership of Razif and Amelia displayed top class badminton craft and turned their rivals’ plans of straight-set victory into dust.
The Malaysian couple was everywhere in the court as they pushed their opponents on the back foot with strong backlash and finished the second game of the match by putting significant margin of 21-17 on the score board.
The third set turned into survival of the fittest as both couples were standing at the same level with a 1-1 match score.
The spectators were expecting a nerve-racking fight but their thirst was not filled completely as the Malaysians could not rise after scoring 14 points in the decider.
The victorious duo of Alfian Eko-Gloria Emanuelle accelerated their pace in last half of the set and established a comfortable lead of seven points which helped them to finish the final set with score board flashing 21-14 score in their favour.
This crucial match point concluded their 2-1 victory over the opponent duo Razif-Amelia and they surged into the pre quarter-finals of Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012.
The mixed doubles experts, Alfian Eko and Gloria Emanuelle are now scheduled to meet Chu En Huang-Mei Ching Huang from Chinese Taipei on March 29, 2012.
