Alfian Eko, Gloria Emanuelle proceed into pre quarter-finals of Singapore International Series 2012
Indonesia’s talented duo Alfian Eko Prasetya-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja played impeccable badminton and thrashed Yen Jui Lin-Ti Jung Wu to surge into pre quarter-finals of Li-Ning Singapore International Series on August 15, 2012.
This Mixed Doubles first round match prolonged to 45 minutes before ending with final result of 22-24, 21-14 and 21-18.
Both teams put an admirable show of skills in three games and their honest effort was appreciated by the crowd.
Alfian and Gloria, who were playing for Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh club, played with great determination and passed this tough trial to setup a second round match with Yip Jiun Tan-Sook Chin Chong of Malaysia.
They earned the right to be in the pre quarter-finals by casting the Taipei shuttlers out with 2-1 victory.
Though, they struggled to get into required momentum and lost first set but the ending two games saw them in prime touch.
The battle heated up with both contenders putting all they got to gain an early advantage. They remained toe-to-toe all the way to game point situation.
At first, Yen Jui-Ti Jung established a decent lead and enjoyed the upper hand in a couple of nonstop rallies but they could not go with the same flow and lost this tempo just before the interval.
Later part of the game belonged to Alfian-Gloria as they dictated their rivals all the way to game point situation but some fatal mistakes allowed Taipei campaigners to pocket opening game with 24-22 margin.
However, the Indonesian pair made amends in the very next set as they completely outclassed the opposing team in all areas of the game and brought the match to the right balance.
This time Alfian and Gloria played positive badminton and got into a commanding position with some valuable points in a row.
They did not squander their effort at any stage and bagged this crucial set with a significant figure of 21-14.
Now both teams were standing level and they strived hard to surpass their opponent in the third set.
They remained close in most part of the game but then the twosome of Alfian and Gloria that locked the honour with a respectable lead in 21-18 score.
