Alfonso Gomez Senior: If Saul Alvarez wants to win, he is going to have to sweat blood – Boxing news
The father and trainer of Alfonso Gomez, Alfonso Gomez senior, believes his fighter has the capability to see off the unbeaten prospect, Saul Alvarez.
Alfonso Gomez and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez are both set to meet for a world title clash on September 17, 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and Gomez senior reckons his fight will stop Alvarez’s unbeaten run on the fight night.
Gomez Senior admitted in front of the media that the current World Boxing Council’s Light Middleweight Champion, Alvarez, is a great fighter and it will not be an easy night for his son but on the same note, the trainer claimed Alvarez would have to sweat
blood if he has to win this time.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “This is a great fight and Canelo is a great opponent, but if he wants to win he’s going to have to sweat blood. Alfonso Gomez is a fighter who fights with honor, who accepts all fights and we guarantee
a good fight. I promise you Canelo has never fought a fighter like Alfonso Gomez.”
Alvarez and Gomes are both Mexican combatants and are both from Guadalajara. Therefore, Alfonso senior was happy as he knows the title in any case will be staying in the City.
Alfonso Senior added, “They both are Mexican, they are both from Guadalajara. Regardless of who wins, the title will stay in Guadalajara.”
In the meanwhile, Gomez also commented on his fight. He declared himself as a winner and claimed he will become the world champion and people will know it.
“I know Canelo trains hard and he is not a champion for nothing, but I have experience. On September 17, everyone will know Alfonso Gomez as the world champion,” he said.
Let’s see whether Alfonso Gomez junior really has what it takes to shrug off Alvarez, who has never been defeated in the ring as of yet.
