Alfonso Gomez says he always gives 100 percent to the game – Boxing news
The 30-year-old from Jalisco in Mexico, Alfonso Gomez, has shared his thoughts ahead of his bout with the reigning World Boxing Council’s super welterweight world champion, Saul Alvarez, on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Gomez, who has won 22 of his 28 professional fights (2 draws), with 11 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he always puts his 100 percent in the fight.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I don’t consider myself a great fighter. I might not have the power that other fighters have, the speed, the knockouts but I do give 100 percent and I feel that I work hard, maybe harder than anybody else.”
Gomez, who was a competitor on the reality TV show ‘The Contender’, where he secured third position out of sixteen boxers, stated he only steps in the ring to fight and that is all he does.
“I train hard in the gym, I give everything of myself in every fight and I throw many, many punches and that’s always been very successful for me. And that’s all I can do and that’s the type of fighter I am,” Gomez added.
Many think Gomez is a bit careless in regards to his body weight as it can put the boxer in trouble on the fight night.
Gomez commented on his weight and revealed he is just four pounds over so there is nothing to worry as the warrior claimed he will take care of it before the bout gets underway.
Gomez remarked, “I’m just training hard, harder than ever. The weight’s not going to be an issue. I’m probably four pounds over the weight limit right now.”
The Gomez-Alvarez bout is going to have a large crowd as it is happening on the same night on which the five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather, will take on the Vicious, Victor Ortiz. However let’s see if Gomez can beat his 9 years younger opponent
or not.
