Alfonso Soriano will not miss former teammates – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ left fielder Alfonso Soriano had an unusually frank message on Friday, February 24. The club will not miss the players who have recently departed. His comment was with reference to recently departed Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano.
The Cubs deemed it appropriate and necessary to trade Zambrano to Miami Marlins while Ramirez preferred to sign a three-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Soriano was asked what he thought about the moves and if he would miss the players. The frankness was at its height when he stated that whatever Zambrano was doing did not make anyone happy in the club. His trade, in his view, was a good step and that the
club will not miss him.
"I think they made very good moves, trading 'Z,' because I don't know if he wasn't happy or what here, but the things he did here, nobody was happy," Soriano said. "I think the team is happy they were able to trade him and I think he's happy, too, that he's
in Miami now. It worked great for both positions. We won't miss him."
The right-handed left fielder has 13 years experience and is considered one of the finest players in the club. With the career average of .274 in 1606 games, Soriano has scored 978 runs, having had 927 RBIs to his credit and a .506 slugging percentage.
The 40-man roster for the Chicago Cubs might not have the tough spirited and seemingly ungovernable Zambrano and experienced Ramirez now, as it is now Soriano to turn the tide for the Chicago Cubs.
He seems dedicated to do just that.
"Now, I have to focus on my new team that I have here," he said. "I can't think about my old teammates, I want to think about my new teammates and be friendly with my new teammates."
Soriano had a .244 average the past season in 137 games that he played, having had no less than 26 home-runs. Being the Silver Slugger in 2002, 04, 05 and 06, there are many hopes attached to this player for a great show.
