Alfred Burden outplays Zhang Anda in Qualifiers Round 2 of China Open 2011 – Snooker news
The Chinese 19-year-old local hero Zhang Anda has succumbed to Alfred Burden in round 2 of the qualifiers of China Open 2011 by a frame score of 5-1 in a best-of-nine frame match.
The overall score line between the players was 5-85, 69-41, 73-22, 80-11, 74-28, and 69-0.
The ‘Mighty Mouse’ Zhang Anda who came within a frame of defeating seven-time world champion Stephen Henry at the World Championship last year could not perform at all in round 2.
The first frame was taken by Zhang Anda where he was the first one among the balls. On his first visit, he did 30 before giving a foul to his opponent. However, he was lucky to get back on the table soon and another 55 from him awarded him with the opener
1-0.
Anda was again the first one to be on the run but he broke at 41 giving Burden a chance. This time Burden punished him and rolled in 55 points good enough to have the level the things later on after a few more shots 1-1.
The frames played were all cagey as there were no reasonable breaks made by any of the players.
Zhang Anda was not getting any momentum at all as he lost all the frames straight after winning the opener.
The English player dominated the third frame with a couple of quick fires, 32 and 32. In the fourth frame Anda had good chance in the start but he again gave a foul after potting 11 points and was not able to score anything afterwards though he was brought
back on the table a couple of times. Finally, another break of 50 took Burden ahead by 3-1.
Alfred Burden also took the next two frames sealing his victory with dominant breaks of 63 and 68 respectively.
It was a one man show all the way as Anda had completely lost his nerve and gifted all the frames to his opponent.
Burden has now reached round 3 of the qualifiers where he will face Matt Selt.
