Alfred Dunhill Championship; Louis misses the cut while Haindl fires 66
Alex Haindl smashed a score of 66 in the second round of Alfred Dunhill Championship and surged up the leader board to take a share in second spot of the leader board.
The South African teed off from the back making a low profile entrance. The 20-year-old rookie parred all the five opening holes before collecting an eagle at the par-5 15th. Haindl seem to be focused on a risk-free game, which is why he remained
calm on rest of the three holes. However, on his way to the front, Haindl decided to test his irons and smashed a fabulous birdie on the first hole. The iron play did not stop here, as the South African rolled a lovely putt at the next hole after drilling
the second shot with a 3-iron.
He holed one more birdie at the sixth and capped the day with a scorecard showing two eagles and two birdies.
Haindl was joined by Dawie Van der Walt and Robert Rock at the second place. Dawie gave a terrible performance despite of having home course advantage. The player teed off from the front and helped two birdies against a bogey to compile a score of one-under.
Similar play was demonstrated from his side, while teeing off at the back nine; Dawie reached the green in two and putted the third shot for a birdie at the 18th hole.
Rock has not completed the front nine and is two-under after seven holes. The Englishman has picked two points by birdying the second and third hole of the course.
Three strokes below him is a group, which includes Charl Schwartzel. The veteran is in no mood to leave the number 70. 2-time Open winner picked five birdies against two bogeys and took a share in top 12.
Louis Oosthuizen failed to make the cut in the next round, owing to his terrible performance in the opening rounds. The conqueror of Old Course compiled 76 on the first day and finished with a 71 on the second. He teed off from back, while birdying two holes
and proceeded towards the front in pursuit of one birdie and two dropped shots.
The day is about to end at the Leopard Creek Country Club and so is the second round. For live updates of the tournament, keep visiting Bettor.com.
