Alfred Dunhill Links Championship kicks-off on the European Tour: Live leaderboard
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship kicked-off today on three courses simultaneously including the Kingsbarns, St. Andrews and the Carnoustie. Spanish golfer, Rafael Cabrera-Bello has clinched an early lead in the opening holes at Kingsbarns.
The 27-year-old pulled in a stunning eagle at par-five, 3rd and went over to card two more birdies on fourth and sixth to stand out among the field. He is now one shot clear from fast approaching contenders, David Drysdale of Scotland, Northern
Irishman, Graeme McDowell and Frenchman, Benjamin Hebert.
McDowell, also playing the Kingsbarns, chose to start-off from back nine like many players this morning and stumbled on a bogey at par-five, 12th. He quickly jolted back into form to pull in a birdie on the very next hole and a glorious eagle
at par-five, 16th. He carded another birdie on the next hole and is now three-under for the moment and ready to make the turn for the front nine.
McDowell has been struggling since the start of the year and has not won a single event so far. He missed the cut in three major events of the year including the Masters, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. The golfer has now fallen to Number
15 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Martin Kaymer, the young German, is another player on the field striving to regain his lost form and has opened up his account with a birdie on the opening hole at the Kingsbarns. Kaymer has also not posted a win in the current season apart from his victory
in the first week of January, but has persisted at the top-ten on the OWGR with some strong finishes.
Long hitting American, John Daly opened up with a barrage of blistering birdies on the two opening holes but has now dropped two shots to stay level par at Carnoustie’s difficult turf.
World Number Two ranked player, Lee Westwood, also playing the Kingsbarns, has decided to be complacent with his current position of level-par in the opening holes of the back nine. Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Justin Johnson and David Horsey are among several
other players who are yet to tee-off on the first day.
