Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - who will win it?
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is back to the three triplets of Scotland; Old Course, Carnoustie Golf Club and Fife between 7th -10thOctober, 2010.
The event carries a purse of $5 million and takes place every year in October. It is this tournament that is held on three different courses. Moreover, this year, the tournament is back with a star studded field of the Ryder Cup.
Nine players along with the striker, Colin Montgomerie will be teeing off today.
Although the party time is not over in Scotland as the winning side of the Ryder Cup is still celebrating their victory but rest of the squad has headed to yet another tournament to test their endurance and nerves. Like every season,
this year will also be an enjoyable time despite the torrential winds and rain that makes the six hour session of a round look like h**l.
Despite all these hindrances, the players are ready to face the challenge but the party mode is not over yet and this is what they disclosed to the press who went to take their views regarding the upcoming championship. The captain
of the Ryder Cup team said, that in times of economic recession when it is hard to get the sponsorships, the Ryder Cup victory helps a lot.
Colin Montgomerie said, "We live in these economic times where it is difficult for so-called sponsorship for any sport…..And that (the Ryder Cup win) can only help anyone who plays in Europe and plays golf on the European Tour.
It helps us all."
On the contemporary, the Ryder Cup member isn't the one who will be gathering the limelight but it will be a major winner.
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be showing the presence of nine of the European team members. Chances are that they are tired and fatigued, but they are still taking part in the championship to test their energy level. According
to the experts, none but few will be able to reach the top of the leaderboard out of the nine tired winners. More chances are that non Ryder Cup players like Louis Oosthuizen and Ernie Els will seize the victory in Scotland.
Ernie Els, is one of the big guns in the tournament and bettors say that it is him who will shine on the Sunday leaderboard. Els, is one of the contenders who spent their weekend after the Tour Championship sitting in front of
the television set watching Ryder Cup. The player finished in the top seventh spot of the leaderboard with a 65, but did not qualify for the Ryder Cup squad. However, one thing that came out positive from that tournament was Ernie Els’ putting. Throughout
the season, Els was seen struggling with the putters but by the end of the 4th round in Atlanta a remarkable change came in the player: he regained his putting.
Earlier this season, Els, posted two victories in Florida and recently he was inducted in the Golf Hall of Fame. Regarding his performance at this course, he has recorded five top sevens at Fife which means he won’t have much of
a trouble with the par and the weather.
The next player on the list is the British Open champion, Louis Oosthuizen. The South African, won a Claret Jug here, therefore; expectations are that he will do it again. Although, he is recovering from an ankle injury which he
got on a hunting trip back at home where he was attending Charl Schwartzel’s wedding. However, he is in the form to steal the trophy which lies in the custody of Simon Dyson, the defending champion of the title.
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has stepped into the first round with nine Ryder Cup winners, two major champions and very soon the results of the first day leader board will be here.
