  1. ...the 'Algae Eater' is the basic Hypostomus Pleco which is docile where algae is present ...grows up to 12"

...another very docile 'Algae eater' is Pterygoplichthys multiradiatus, also larger...up to 24"

...and then the 'Algae eater' Pterygoplichthys pardalis, is extremely well suited for any community, very docile...but also the biggest 'pooper' of the group, really excretes lots of waste

....if you have a compatible 'Algae eater' that's good with Discus, it is probably one of these

...if you can you post a photo of the one you have kept so far identification would be easier?

  2. Otocinclus are your best bet since they are tropical and will not suck on the Discus' body like Plecos do. They prefer to be in groups of 3 or more, so keep that in mind.

You can also get a small Pleco such as Clown Pleco, Rubbernose Pleco, or Bristlenose Pleco, but keep in mind that they may be tempted to suck on the body of the Discus and remove their slime coat (killing them eventually).

    E-mail me for any questions!

  3. cory sterbai   ottocinclus cats    zebra plec  gold nugget plecostomus sum of the nicer ones but when spawning wouldnt have any just a cone and no gravel

  4. I've kept breeding pairs of Bristlenose Plecos with Discus in a planted tank and never experienced any problems between the two.
