Algae eater?

my cousin wants to give me her algae eater i dont know which kind is it but im going to buy a betta ...my question is should i just buy the algae eater and leave it on the tank then take it out and put it back in or will my betta and algae eater be okay?

  1. No, they should be fine together. MAke sure there is algae in the tank unless you are giving it algae wafers!


  2. Depends what kind of algae eater it is.  Most are peaceful, but Chinese algae eaters have a tendency to become aggressive and stop eating algae as they get older.

    Plus, what size is the tank?  Some algae eaters, like common plecos can grow to 18+ inches.....Even the smallest algae eaters-oto cats need at least 10 gallons for one.

    EDIT:  Ahhhh....and now we see why I have my Q/A's set to private.....now you trolls will have to work a bit harder to find my answers to give me more thumbs down for correct answers.......
