  1. its 10 mins b/c together they fill it in 20 mins and 20/2 =10 and 5*2=10

  2. i think its 8 mins or 10 mins

  3. Let x represent pipe...

    2x + x = 20 minutes

    therefore 3x = 20

    x = 6.66  larger pipe takes 6 minutes and 40 seconds

    smaller pipe takes 13 minutes and 20 seconds

  4. Larger Tank: 6 minutes and 40 seconds

  5. Rate of larger pipe = 1 / x

    Rate of smaller pipe = 1 / 2x

    Rate together = 1 / 20

    Rate of larger pipe + rate of smaller pipe = Rate together

    (1 / x) + (1 / 2x) = (1 / 20)

    (2 / 2x) + (1 / 2x) = (1 / 20)

    (3 / 2x) = (1 / 20)

    3 * 20 = 2x

    60 = 2x

    x = 30

    ANSWER: The larger pipe takes 30 minutes to fill the tank.

  6. I would go with Lucy's answer definitely!
