  1. You need to eliminate one of the variables.  You can do it by adding two of the equations:

    -6x + 5y = 3

    +6x - 3y = 3

    -----------------------

    .         2y = 6 (then divide by 2 to find y)

    Once you have the value of y, you substitute that into one of the equations to find x

    y = 2x - 1

    2x - 1 =...

    Alternatively, you can eliminate y by substituting y = 2x -1 into one of the equations:

    6x - 3(2x-1) = 3

    and solve for x, then substitute this value of x into one of the equations to find y.

  2. plug y=2x-1 in for y in the first equation and solve for x. then, plug the answer for x into the any equation and solve for y. then, plug both variables into the equations and find the answer. hope this helps.

  3. since y=2x-1 you just have to plug it in to the equations

    like this...

    6x-3(2x-1)=3 or -6x+5(2x-1)=3

    then you will find x and plug it into the y=2x-1 to find what y is
