can you please explain how to get the answer to this question i'm totally lost.

The formula for the height h of an equilateral triangle is h= (√3 over 2)b

where b is the length of a side. write a formula for the area of an equilateral trialgle in terms of the following.

a. the length of a side only

b. the height only

  1. a. with a side  Area= 1/2 base x height so you do the height formula then you have the base and the height to find area

    b. with only the height you plug the hieght into your formula and solve backwards for the base then you have the base and height to find area

  2. You know that the area of a triangle is (1/2)bh, where b is the base and h is the height.  To get the formula in terms of the base only, plug in what you have for h:

    A = (1/2)b(sqrt(3)b/2) = (b^2)sqrt(3)/4

    To get it in terms of height only, take your formula for the height and solve it for the base, then plug that into the (1/2)bh.  I'll let you do that one.
