  1. the speed for the 1st trip is 12m/h and the trip back is 8.57m/h the whole trip would be 9.99m/h

  2. Speed for 1st half - 5 minutes per mile ( 25 mins / 5 miles)

    Speed for 2nd half - 7 minutes per mile ( 35 mins / 5 miles)

Speed for entire trip - 6 minutes per mile ( 60 mins / 10 miles)

  3. This is algebra II?

Rate times time equals distance.  To get the rate, divide the distance by the time.

To get your speed for the whole trip, take the entire distance (10 miles) and divide by the total time.

  4. By riding your bike 5 miles in a time of 25 minutes, you were traveling 1 mile every 5 minutes which equals out to be 12 miles per hour (mph).  On your return trip, by riding your bike 5 miles in a time of 35 minutes, you were traveling 1 mile every 7 minutes which equals out to be 8.57 mph. The average of those two speeds is 10.285, so it's safe to say that your biking speed for the whole trip traveling 10.29 mph.

  5. Ans 1) Bike Speed = Total Distance/ Total time

                                = 5/ (25/60)

                                = 12 miles/hour

Ans 2) Bike Speed = Total Distance/ Total time

                                = 5/ (35/60)

                                = 8.57 miles/hour

Ans 3) Bike Speed = Total Distance/ Total time

                                = (5 + 5) / (5/12) + (5/8.57)

                                = 10 / ( .416 + .583)

                                = 10 / .99

                                = 10.10 miles/hour
