Two cyclists, 50 miles apart are racing toward one another from opposite directions at

constant speeds of 18 mph and 22 mph. A fly buzzes back and forth between the noses

of the cyclists at 100 mph until it is smashed when the cyclists collide. How far did the Fly travel until it dies

  2. Very simple. The two cyclists are moving towards each other at a combined speed of 40 mph. 50 miles takes them

    t = 50/40 hours or 5/4 hours

    fly is buzzing back and forth for 5/4 hours at 100 mph, so it traveled 100mph x 1.25 hr = 125 miles

    Sorry I didn't use algebra, but not needed.
