Hi,

My geometry teacher decided to mail us an algebra one review. Need a little help on a couple.

First-

Solve algebraically for the indicated variable. Put answers in exact value form. Show all work.

4.7(2f - 0.5) = -6(1.6f - 8.3f)

Put the equation in standard form-

Write the equation of the line parallel to 4x + 3y = 9 and passing through the point ( -10, 3 ).

Factor completely.

4n^2 + 68n + 250

Solve by factoring.

30x^3 = 21x^2 + 135x

Simplify. Give answer with a non-negative exponent.

( 3c^ -4 d^5)^2 times 12cd^ -4

Just pick out the one's you can assist me with. Any help at all would be great. I will give the best answer to whoever can help me the most. Thanks in advance.

  1. 4.7(2f - 0.5) = -6(1.6f - 8.3f)

    9.4f - 2.35 = -9.6f + 49.8

    9.4f + 9.6f = 49.8 + 2.35

    19f = 52.15

    f = 2.745

    4n² + 68n + 250

    quadratic equation:

    to solve ax + by + c = 0

    x = [-b ±√(b²-4ac)] / 2a

    n = [-68 ±√(68²-4*250*4)] / 2*4

    n = [-68 ±√(4624-2000)] / 8

    n = [-68 ± 51.225] / 8

    n = -2.097, -14.90

    (n + 2.097 )(n + 14.90 )

    .

  2. 4.7(2f - 0.5) = -6(1.6f - 8.3f)

    9.4 f - 2.35 = -9.6 f + 49.8 f

    9.4 f + 9.6 f -49.8 f = 2.35

    68.8 f = 2.35

    f = 2.35 / 68.8

    Write the equation of the line parallel to 4x + 3y = 9 and passing through the point ( -10, 3 )

    3y=-4x+9

    y=(-4/3)x + 3

    The parallel equation will have the same slope, namely -4/3

    y=(-4/3)x +b

    plug y=-10 and x=3 into the above

    -10 = (-4/3)(3)+b

    -10=-4+b

    b=-6

    The equation is y=(-4/3)x-6

  3. (1) Solve algebraically for the indicated variable. Put answers in exact value form. Show all work.

    4.7(2f - 0.5) = -6(1.6f - 8.3f)

    4.7(2f - 0.5) = -6(-6.7f)

    9.4f - 2.35 = 40.2f

    9.4f - 40.2f = 2.35

    -30.8f = 2.35

    f = -0.076298701

    (2) Put the equation in standard form-

    Write the equation of the line parallel to 4x + 3y = 9 and passing through the point ( -10, 3 ).

    *Sorry O already forgot this =(

    (3) Factor completely.

    4n^2 + 68n + 250 = 0

    The factors are:

    n1 = -5.377501001  and n2 = -11.622499

    First, divide the entire equation by four, so

    we can have

    n^2 + 17n + 62.5 = 0

    (n + 5.377501001)(n + 11.622499) = 0

    *use scientific calculator, to give you this precise values.

    (4) Solve by factoring.

    30x^3 = 21x^2 + 135x

    So write this in general form 30x^3 - 21x^2 - 135x = 0

    bring out x

    x (30x^2 - 21x - 135) = 0

    x1 = 0  <--factor 1

    (30x^2 - 21x - 135) = 0  divide the equation by 30, then you'll have,

    (x - 2.5)(x + 1.8) = 0

    x2 = 2.5 and x3 = -1.8

    (5) Simplify. Give answer with a non-negative exponent.

    ( 3c^ -4 d^5)^2 times 12cd^ -4

    Solution: (3c^-8 d^10) * (12cd^ -4)

    then you add the exponents of the common factors like for all c's, you add -8 + 1 = -7

    so, you can have: 36c^-7 d^6

    to avoid negative exponents, we must make this a fraction

    i.e. all factors with a negative exponent will be placed in the denominator to reverse the sign of the exponent

    so the answer for this is, (39d^6 ) / (c^7)

    I hope this helps ^_^ Goodluck on your Algebra and study hard ^_^

  4. First:

    4.7(2f-0.5)= -6(1.6f - 8.3f)

    => (4.7 * 2f) - (4.7 * 0.5) = (-6 * 1.6f) - ( -6 * 8.3f)

    => ( 9.4f ) - ( 2.35 ) = ( -9.6f ) - ( -49.8 )

    => 9.4f + 9.6f = 2.35 + 49.8

    => 19f = 52.15

    => f = ( 52.15 / 19)

    => f =  2. 7447368
