I need help on this question...

Write the equation of each line.

1. m=4; contains (3,2)

2. m=0; contains (3,0)

I have no idea how to do these so any help would be great. Thanks!

  1. Dont you have a teacher? lol

  2. 1) y = 4x - 10

    2) y = 0

  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slope

    (scroll down to algebra)

    m is the slope

  4. y=mx+b

    you've got y

    you've got m

    you've got x

    just find b!

  5. 1. Y=4x                  go up 3 then over 2 then from that point go 4 up and 1 over to continue the line.

    2. Because m, which is the slope, is zero the line is horizontal.

  6. y=2x-4

    i don't know if that is right but that is the equasion of the line that goes through both points

  7. use the equation y-y1 = m(x-x1)

    where m is given (gradient)

    x is just x the letter... and x1 is 3

    y is just the y letter and y1 is 2 in one case and 0 in case 2

    sub the values and you should be alright..

  8. alright well from what i remember m is the slope so for

    1: plot the point (3,2) on a grid and then use the slope, so this would be a line with positive slope. One point would go up 4 and one to the right and another down 4 and one to the left, connect the dots and that is #1

    2: This is a vertical line on the point (3,0) go straight up and down and that should be that line.

    Not positive but pretty sure

  9. 1. y=mx + b   is standard form

    plug in 3 which is x and 2 which is y into the equation

    2=3m+b     the slope is m, plus that in

    2=3(4) + b   solve for b which is the y intercept (where the line will cross the y axis)

    b=-10

    so u write it as y=4x-10

    2. The slope is 0, which is different from no slope so dont mix that up

    y=0     0 is the y intercept
