f(x)=-7x-9 is the equation. The question asks me the slope.

I say -7 is the slope.

It also asks me what the y-intercept is.

I say that is -9.

Am I correct???

  1. Yep. Exactly... because the formula is y=mx+b

    m=slope

    b=y-intercept

  2. Yes, you are. And algebra is effing easy, calculus however sucks big time!

  3. f (x) = - 7x - 9

    slope , m = - 7---------You are correct !

    y intercept is y = - 9-----You are correct !

    x = - 4 is a vertical line that passes thro (- 4 , 0)

    The slope of this line is not defined.

  4. yes you are

  5. Algebra doesn't suck.  Some people just suck at doing it.

    Anyway, you are correct.  When you have an equation in the form of y = mx+b (or for that matter, f(x) = mx + b), then "m" is the slope and "b" is the y-intercept.

  6.             correct

  7. This is a form of y=mx+b, but with y replaced by f(x). (m) is the slope & b is the y-intercept. You are correct.

  8. Yes you are correct! BTW algebra does NOT suck!)

  9. That function is in slope-intercept form.

    f (x) = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

    The slope is -7, and the y intercept is -9.

    You are correct!

  10. Yes.  Algebra doesn't suck as much as you thought.
