  1. you are missing the x variable in your equation but i guess you meant:

    y(x) = -1777x + 27153 , number of gun deaths

    2005: x = 5, y(5) = -1777 * 5 + 27153 = 18268 deaths

    2007: x = 7, y(7) = -1777 * 7 + 27153 = 14714 deaths

    y(x) = -1777*x + 27153

    11160 = -1777x + 27153

    1777x = 27153 - 11160

    x = 15993 / 1777

    x = 9

    year 2009

  2. In 2005, x = 5:

    y = -1777x + 27,153 = -1777(5) + 27,153 = 18,268

    In 2007, x = 7:

    y = -1777(7) + 27,153 = 14,714

    y = 11,160, solve for x:

    11,160 = -1777x + 27,153

    1777x = 15,993

    x = 9

    Year: 2009
