  1. 1./2.   "Three more than" refers to addition, "twice a number" refers to multiplication of a variable (x), "is thirty-nine" is the same as "= 39."

    So  3 + 2x = 39

    3.  Which combinations of numbers (when multiplied) give you 18?  1x18, 2x9, and 3x6.

    So 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18.

    4.  Which combinations of numbers (when multiplied) give you 28?

    1x28, 2x14, and 4x7.

    So, 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28.

    5.  Which prime numbers (when multiplied together) give you 20?

    First, let's work from the smallest prime number (2): 20 / 2 = 10.  Now, break 10 down: 10/2 = 5.  2x2x5 = 20

    So, 2, 2, 5.

    6.  Which prime numbers (when multiplied together) give you 19?  Well, 19 IS a prime number.  Only 1 and 19 give you 19.

    7.  Negative times positive equals negative.  So (-3)2 = -6.

    8.  x = -2, so 3(-2)2.  Our answer will be negative (there is only one negative number).  So, 3(-2)2 = -12.

    9.  The least common multiple of 18 and 30 is the smallest positive integer that is a multiple of both a and b.  30x2 = 60 and 18x5 = 60.  So 60 is our answer.

    10. To find the greatest common factor of 18 and 30:

    1.  List the prime factors of each number: 18 = 2x3x3, 30 = 2x3x5

    2. Multiply those factors both numbers have in common. If there are no common prime factors, the GCF is 1.  2x3 = 6.

    Our answer is 6.

    11. Multiply the numerators together, then multiply the denominators together.  5x6 = 30.  3x20 = 60.  So, 5/3 x 6/20 = 30/60 = 1/2.

    12.  To find the quotient of fractions, flip one of the fractions then multiply instead: 2/3 ÷ 5/9 = 2/3 x 9/5 = (2x9)/(3x5) = 18/15 = 6/5.

    13.  Put these into the improper fraction form first: 5 2/3 = 17/3.  1 3/4 = 7/4.  Then solve as above: 17/3 ÷ 7/4 = 17/3 x 4/7 =  (17x4)/(3x7) = 68/21.

    14.  Put these into the improper fraction form first: 2 4/3 = 10/3.  2 3/4 = 11/4.  10/3 x 11/4 = (10x11)/(3x4) = 121/12

    15.  11/2 + 3 = 11/2 + 6/2 = 17/2.

    16.  Improper fraction form: 23/6 - 17/8.  LCM = 24, so 23/6 - 17/8 = (23x4)/24 - (17x3)/24 = 92/24 - 51/24 = 41/24.

    17.  6 2/5 + 3/5 = 32/5 + 3/5 = 35/5 = 7.

    18.  7 4/5 - 2 2/3 = 39/5 - 8/3.  LCM = 15.  (39x3)/15 - (8x5)/15 = 117/15 - 40/15 = 77/15

Whew, that was long.  Hope this helps!  Check out my sources for more info.

  2. Sweetie, you are joking, right? If you are not willing to solve those simple problems yourself how do you expect to succeed later in life? There will be a point when there won't be anybody to whisper the solution into your ear. You could have used the time you took to post the questions here to actually solve the problems.

This may sound harsh but you benefit much more attempting to solve those problems on your own.

    Good luck!

    PS: Jessica made a mistake on #9. The LCM of 18 and 30 is 90 rather than 60. (18x5 & 30x3)

  3. lol... i used to kno this... but summer knocks it right out, so now i'm just giving my brain a nice workout... i don't kno if it's right. i hate fractions. thank god i moved beyond this.

    1. 2a+3=39

    5. 2,2, 5 (i think it could be said as 2^2 x 5)

    6. 19 is a prime #

    7. 9

    8. 12

    10. i think is 6

    11. 3

    12. i think is 6/5 which is also 1 1/5

    14. 9.16 repeating

    15. 8 1/2

    17. 7

  4. Do your own homework sweetie. No one wants to waste their time doing a kids math.
