it says to rewrite these equations using exponents

but i dont get it....

2*2*2*4*4*4*4*4*4

and this is the really confusing one

2^2 (3^4)

--------------

8(8)(8)

and then on these problems it says to use the order of operations to evaluate each expression

8+2-4*12/16=

1^2*3(4/5)=

but i dont get it......

  1. order of operations is pemdas. that's parenthesis, exponents, multiply/divide, add/subtract. you have to go in that order. in the first one, since there are no parenthesis or exponents, start with multiply/divide. 4*12 is 48, so 8+2-48/16. then divide 48 by 16, since it comes next. it is 3. 8+2-3 is all you have left, and you can do that in your head.

    okay. 2*2*2*4*4*4*4*4*4. first, the twos. there are three twos, so 2^3. there are 6 fours, so 4^6.

    2^2 means two twos, so 2*2. that's four. 3^4 means 4 threes, so 3*3*3*3 is 81. so 4*81/8*8*8. it's just multiply/divide.


  2. First of all, that's not algebra

    The first part is a bit confusing, since i dont get it either.

    but the third part is pretty simple

    The order of operations is basically that, you have to solve parentheses first, and than exponents, and than multiplication and division, and finaly, addition and soustraction. I'm sure you've learned those in class

    For example, the answer to

    8+2-4*12/16 = 7

    here is what i did to solve it

    8+2-4*12/16

    8+2-48/16

    8+2-3

    10-3

    7

    and

    2^2 * 3^4 * 8^-3

    Do multiplication and division first, then addition and subtraction second.

    8 + 2 - 48/16

    8 + 2 - 3

    7

    Do exponent first and multipclication/division second.

    1^2 * 3 * (4/5)

    1 * 3 * (4/5)

    3 * (4/5)

    12/5

    Be sure to google "order of operations" to tell you that you do exponents first, mult/division second, and add/subtract third.

  5. To open your text book and list the laws of indices is the best solution.

    The first is (2^3)(4^6)

    What's confusing in second? Its (2^2)(3^4)/(2^9)

    If you knew the order, there is nothing in it. It is BODMAS

    B for brackets, O for of, D for division, M for multiplication, A for addition and S for subtraction. Now do the operation from left to right.

    The first should be division so 12/16 first this is 3/4. the multiplication so 4*3/4 = 3, then addition so 8+2 which is 10 so effectively its 10 - 3  

    =7.
