1. VOCABULARY identify the exponent and the base in the expression 6 to the 12th power

2. WRITING describe the steps you would take to evaluate the expression n to the fifth power when n equals 3. Then evaluate the expression,

i dont understand what it wants me to do! I wish these dumb text books would explain it better

anyways please&&thanks (:

  1. Exponent is the little number (the 12). Base is the normal sized number (the 6).

    This one is kind of weird. I would say:

    Substitute 3 for N. Multiply 3x3x3x3x3 = 9x9x3 = 81x3 = 243

    I hope this helps! If you need more help, feel free to e-mail me.

  2. The base is 6.  The exponent is 12.

    You take 3 to the fifth power, which is 3 times 3 times 3 times 3 times 3.  Evaluated: 9*9*3=81*3=243.

  3. ok this is easy.. since it's vocabulary, it's not really doing your homework for you it's explaining a concept.

    The base is the number itself, and the exponent is the number you raise the base to.

    for example.. in 2 to the 3rd power,

    2 is the base and 3 is the exponent

    remember it this way... you know you write it with a 2 and then you write a smaller 3 above the 2 to show 2 to the 3rd power. The lower number is the base and the higher number is the exponent

    for  n to the fifth power when n = 3

    so you just substitute 3 for n in the expression and you have

    3 to the 5th power

    (remember, 3 is the base and 5 is the exponent)

    so the answer is 3x3x3x3x3 =243

  4. 1. 6 to the 12th power means.... 6^12  the base is 6 and the exponent is 12.

    2. First set up the known problem from what the question tells you.

    n to the fifth power means n^5.

    n equals 3 tells you then unknow in the equation

    and also tells you what you are solving for.

    To evaluate plug 3 into the equation you set up.

    n^5

    n=3

    3^5=243

  5. The exponent is the power.

    n to the fifth power-n=3.

    So, that would be 3 to the 5th power.

    so, that means you must multiply three by itself five times. 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 3

    Don't just do three times five. That would be wrong. You must do 3 x 3 =9 x 3 = 27 x 3 = so on...until you have multiplied the numbers by three five times.
