  1. 14+5n=-4n+17

    move the -4 n to the other side

    14+9n=17

    move the 14 to the other side

    9N=3

    n= 3/9

    n = 1/3

    (hope I'm right)

  2. 14+5n=-4n+17

    5n = - 4n + 3 {subtract 14 from both sides}

    9n = 3 {add 4n to both sides}

    n = 1/3 {divide both sides by 9}

  3. You move the -4n to the other side of the equation because you want all the variables on one side.

    So now you have 14 + 9n= 17

    So now you move 14 to the other side because you want to get the variables alone.

    Now you have 9n = 3

    Now divide 3 by 9 and you get

    n = 3/9

    which can be reduced to

    n=1/3
