Solve for the x in the following system.

6x+6y= -2

y= -x

  1. That's not a valid problem. Here's the breakdown...

    6X + 6Y = -2

    6X + 6(-X) = -2

    6X - 6X = -2

    0X = -2

    They cancel each other out. There's something wrong with your formula.

    6x is 6x.

    6y is 6(-x) which is -6x.

    so 6x + -6x equals zero.

    zero does not equal -2.

  3. first you substitute the y in the top equation for -x, making it. . .

    6x-6x=-2

    0=-2

    so it looks like the equation does not exist
