Algebra problems with odd instructions?

the problems below seem to be asking the same thing. i'm not sure what the teacher wants for the first problem, is the student supposed to use the data from the second problem in the first?... also, i think that there might be a few words missing or something in the second problem. please share how you figured it out.

Find the average speed for the given distance and time. (d=rt)

1. solve for r (average speed)

2. an airplane 770 miles in 120 minutes. find the average rate of speed.

  1. using d=rt plug 770 into d:

    770=rt

    then plug 120 into t

    770=120r

    divide 120 by both sides and that is the rate of speed.
