i get two answers depending on the method i use- once i know which method is right, it will be easier to apply to all the questions.

in the book, there are straight lines where i have brackets, if that helps.

2[3.79-5.62(4.1)+2.6(-1.3)]

what's the answer?

ps- i am homeschooling my 7th grader- i knw once we get into the swing of things, we'll do fine, but for now, i need some help!

2 ANSWERS

  1. 2 | 3.79 - (23.042) - (3.38) |

    2 | - 22.632 |

    2 (22.632)

    45.264

NOTE: The vertical lines mean Absolute Value... meaning that no matter what is on the inside... it becomes positive once you have an answer

    EXAMPLE: |-3| = 3

  2. assuming you mean absolute value...

    2[3.79-5.62(4.1)+2.6(-1.3)]

    =2[-22.632]

    = 45.264

*the straight lines of absolute value just make everything positive and act as parentheisis
