  1. 4-1=3

    2*(4-1) = 6

    13-6 = 7

    6 * 7 = 42

    the answer is 42

    first parenthenes then multiplication/division and last addition/subtraction

  2. Do the bit in the inner brackets first

    6[13-2(3)]

    Then do in the brackets, first the multiplication

    6[13-6]

    Then in the brackets the rest of it

    6[7] = 42

    remember BODMAS, Brackets over Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.

    This is the order, use it even if you have sums inside  brackets.

  3. 6[13-2(4-1)]            Original equation

    6[13-2(3)]                 In brackets

    6[13-6]                  multiply -2 by 3

    6(7)                  subtract in parentheses

    42               answer
