Algeria defeats Kenya by 3-1 in FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball news
The FIVB World Cup taking place in Japan recently saw a match between Algeria and Kenya take place in the city of Okayama on November 13 at Momotaro Arena. The two teams put up a good show that took the match to four thrilling sets. However, it was the Algerian
squad that was able to end up on the winning side by 3-1.
The first set of the match started off with both teams on level ground but the Kenyans were able to pull up ahead and dominate the courts as the game progressed. Therefore, the first set of the game went to the Kenyans but the Algerians were able to step
up their game in the second set and give the Kenyans a challenge that got Algeria to equalise the match. The confidence generated by winning the second set enabled the Algerians to start the third set strong and they were able to smother the Kenyans and secure
themselves another win. The Kenyans fought hard in the fourth set in order to take the match to a decisive fifth set but the Algerians managed to pull off a win and seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 19-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23.
The coach of the Algerian team, Ahmed Boukacem, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “For my team today, I am very satisfied with this result. There were fewer errors today
and that enabled us to win. We played really good and I’m happy we were able to beat the African champions. I’m proud of my players and I really admire them, and hope we can keep up this momentum.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Kenyan team, Paul Bitok, shared his views by making the following statements: “Congratulations to my colleague from Africa for winning today. It’s another losing day for us in a match we could have won. But it’s been very
difficult for me for the last two days because one of our players, No. 12 Lydia Maiyo, who happens to be my cousin, lost her father.”
The player that was able to stand out amongst both teams in terms of scoring was the Algerian Faiza Tsabet, who made her presence felt by registering a total of 23 points for her team. Tsabet was helped by her teammate Lydia Oulmou who added 12 points of
her own. On the other hand, the most active Kenyan player was Everlyne Makuto who was able to support her side by tallying 20 points.
