Algeria ready to host the African Women’s Olympic qualification tournament in February
After the successful completion of African Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament in Yaoundé, Cameroon last week, the Confederation African de Volleyball (CAVB) Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament is set to take place in Blida, Egypt from February 2
to 4.
The tournament will serve as qualification phase to the 2012 London Olympic Games where the top women’s squad of this competition will secure a ticket to the biggest sport gala of the year. The prestigious African tournament will attract all the big forces
in the continent as teams from Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, and Tunisia will come into stride for the Olympic ticket.
One team out of the four African contenders will earn the Olympic qualification and it will be the first team advancing from any of the women’s continental tournaments in the world.
Earlier on, the 2011 FIVB World Cup served as the qualification event for Olympics, where teams from United States, Italy, and China secured the top three slots and reserved their seats in the Olympic Games. They joined the host Great Britain, which is already
confirmed for the Olympics on account of being host of the competition.
The 2012 London Olympic Games are scheduled to be kicked off on July 27 and the wonderful action of Summer Olympic will be continued until August 12. A number of individual-player and team sports will be featured, where athletes from all around the world
will get the chance to get recognition of their skills. The vibrant and competitive sport of Volleyball will also be the part of Olympics as an important entity. The 2012 Olympic Volleyball Tournaments will run from July 28 to August 12. The famous Earls Court
will set up the field of play for the volleyball matches.
A total of 144 male and 144 female volleyball athletes in the form of 12 teams on each side will join the action. To play in the Olympic is a dream for almost every athlete. To get an opportunity to play in an Olympic arena is an honour not many sports men
or women will ever have, so the aspiration to qualify for the Olympics is limitless.
Hence, there is going to be a pretty tough competition among four African teams which are up to fight for the Olympic ticket in the upcoming qualification tournament.
