Algerian Volleyball Federation organises One Child, One Ball
The Algerian Volleyball Federation (FAVB) recently conducted an event for the development and popularization of volleyball in the region (Central, East, West and South Algeria).
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) always encourages the national federations to arrange such activities, which can raise awareness among youngsters about the challenging sport of volleyball. The Algerian Volleyball Federation collaborated
with its regional leagues in the country and invited aspiring young players of both genders to come and join the activity. A large number of student athletes, coaches, referees, fans and other sports technicians attended this event, which was officially publicized
as “One Child, One Ball.”
A total of 6,183 children from four prominent volleyball associations of Algeria took part in the activity. Medea, Batna, Guelma and Ain Temouchent Volleyball Associations sent their athletes in the mini-volley festival. Most number of attendees had come
from Medea region. The President of Federation International de Volleyball Mr. Jizhong Wei made special appearance at the event. The presence of President Wei added more value and real meaning to the event. He was happy to see the arrangement and praised the
smart approach of Algerian Volleyball Federation.
The Algerian Volleyball Federation booked a football stadium, in order to facilitate participants with volleyball courts. A total of 36 mini-volley courts were set up for the event. The teams were divided into four zones, while nine courts were allotted
to each zone category. Under-15 and Under-13 boys’ teams and Under-13 and Under-11 girls’ teams attended the event. For competition, 6m x 12m courts were designed, where the net height was 2m maximum. Teams played in ‘four against four’ format and a time of
8 minutes per match.

The Algerian Volleyball Federation and Federation International de Volleyball are hopeful that this joint-venture will have positive impact on the participants and on people in general. They are optimistic that volleyball will prosper and catch more attention
through such events. Algerian Volleyball Federation thanked everyone, who was involved in arranging this mini-volleyball event for children. They especially appreciated the contribution of Ministries of Youth and Sports, other sponsors and National office
of Tourism for making this happen.
The local and national media also played a vital part in promoting this campaign. National Television of Algeria, National Radio and various newspapers hyped the event. At the end of the mini volleyball event, all regional association were given Mikasa volleyballs,
which equalled the number of children who participated in their event. The Algerian Volleyball Federation has plans to continue this wonderful tradition in future. In this regard, they have announced that the next edition of the “one child, one ball’ will
be held in the spring of 2012.
