Algerian coach Ahmed Boukacem talks about upcoming fixtures – Volleyball news
The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has created this wonderful opportunity for Algeria and Kazakhstan to reserve a berth in the upcoming international event. The 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix, which is planned to run from 5-28 August, will host a
grid of 16 teams from across the globe. So far, 14 teams have got their permits to officially enter the competition, while two slots are still open.
Algeria and Kazakhstan will play two matches this week, which will decide on the most deserving team. First match will be played on Thursday, 12th May, while the two teams will have their second meeting on Saturday, 14th May. Algerian city Blida will set
up the field of play for both matches.
The home squad of Algerian ladies is up to take up the challenge. The Algerian team has never qualified for the FIVB World Grand Prix before. Hence, this is unique chance for them to showcase their skills and earn the rights to represent Algeria at the prime
women’s international event.
The team is headed by coach, Ahmed Boukacem, who is very much concerned about his team’s success in the Playoffs.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, he said, “The two meetings will not be easy. Kazakhstan has a very good team with at least three players in the Italian championship. We have looked at videos of this team and will have to play fiercely to have a chance of
qualification for the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix.”
Kazakh ladies have already been featured on the podium of FIVB World Grand Prix in 2007 and 2008, when they finished 10th and 12th respectively. On the other hand, it would be Algeria’s first appearance at the World Grand Prix, only if they are able to exhibit
a good performance at the Playoffs.
All eyes are fixed on the Playoffs, which have the extreme importance for both sides. Algeria has done well at the national level and they have emerged as one of the top teams of Africa in the recent years.
There is absolutely no telling about the potential winner of the World Grand Prix Ticket at this time as both sides are high on emotions and expectations. The situation will become clear as the teams will take their positions at the centre court.
Algeria obviously has the advantage of playing at home and the local fans will be up for the support of their team. It would surely be great to watch the two team vying for the World Grand Prix berth.
