Algerian women’s team prepares for upcoming Olympic qualifiers – Volleyball news
The forthcoming Summer Olympic Games in London are the main highlight of year 2012.
Athletes all over the world have the urge to take part in the Olympics. The women’s volleyball tournament would be an essential element of the Olympic Games.
The qualification process for the London Olympics is already in progress. The 2012 Women’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament started off in November 2011 and the qualification phase will be over on June 10, 2012.
In recent memory, teams from Italy, United States, and China qualified for the Olympics via 2011 FIVB Women’s World Cup, which was hosted by Japan.
Next up the African Qualification Tournament is supposed to take centre stage from January 27 to February 5 in Blida, Algeria. Furthermore, the African Qualification Tournament will be followed by similar campaigns in Europea, North and South America, and
Asia. Each tournament will offer one Olympic ticket to the top team of the competition.
Since Algeria is the host of African Olympic Qualification Tournament, the Women’s National Volleyball squad is all up on toes to prepare for the upcoming scrimmage. The Algerian team had a busy schedule in the latter half of 2011, which included the African
Women’s Championship in August, the FIVB World Cup in Japan in November and another tournament in Qatar in December.
The Algerian ladies actively participated in all the campaigns and showcased their talent on the centre court. The Olympic Qualification would be another test of their skills.
Algeria will have certain advantages in the tournament for being the host nation. Local team will be equipped with emotional support of home audience and will play on familiar courts. The conditions are pretty much in favour of Algeria. Moreover, the team
is undergoing extensive training and practice these days.
The Algerian Volleyball Federation (FAVB) recently invited the top French trainer Mathieu Arnaud for their team. Mathieu stayed with Algerian team from December 27 – 29, 2011 and evaluated it ahead of their qualifiers for the London Olympic Games.
He put the team through different physical tests and checked the fitness level of athletes. He also gave a lecture at the Ecole Nationale Superieure en Science et Technology du Sport in Algiers, which was attended by trainers and athletes of different sports
including volleyball.
The French Trainer shared his knowledge and experience of the game. He made a few recommendations for the Algerian Women’s Volleyball team in order to improve. He suggested for the new coaching staff and also pointed out various other areas of perfection
for the team.
The Algerian Volleyball Federation is full of hope that team will exhibit good performance at the upcoming home tournament and will qualify for the Olympic Games.
