Question:

Alghero in Sardinia?

I've booked flights to Alghero in May. What's the beach like? I've hard there's alot of seaweed, but is it easy to get to a nice beach? We want history, birdwatching, things to do for teens, and a pool.

Should we stay in Alghero, or go somewhere else? I searched for info on Alghero & came across a report of a girl who was attacked in her hotel, so is it rough?

Finally, can anyone recommend any apartments with a shared pool?

First visit to Sardinia, so any useful comments welcome. Thanks.

  1. I lived on Sardinia for two years...I have taken the boat tour to the caves..It was fun, I would recommend it. I didn't go to the beaches there..I would suggest to rent a car and go to the beaches by Santa Teresa or over on the small island of Lamaddalena....Drive to Palau..It's around a 2 hour drive but SO worth it...Hop on the ferry over to Lamaddalena and check out the island...The best beaches around! Also Costa Smeralda is awesome too....

Old town Alghero is really neat to visit. Lots of great shopping. Excellent restaurants....

I would suggest Sardinia to anyone! We had a blast there!! The weather in May is a little iffy for the beaches, but July and August are packed with tourists.

  2. I was in Alghero last year in June. Part of the beach has seaweed but part of it is good. It was warm but I was told it would be warmest in July - August. There are many tours by boat. There is a cave island, with underground caves etc... good scenery. The food is excellent, proper Italian food + local seafood. Also there are various old fashioned buildings etc... and they have a siesta for about 3 hours in the afternoon so evertthing is closed.
