Algorithms wins the Grade 3, Holy Bull Stakes on 29th January at Gulfstream Park and is paving way for the Grade 1, Kentucky Derby
The three-year-old Bernardini’s colt out of Ava Knowsthecode, Algorithms is a Kentucky bred, owned by Starlight Racing. Under training Todd Pletcher, Algorithms has a three for three unbeaten record till yet. The third victory fell into his account
on 29th January in the Grade 3, Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park which was raced over a mile.
Algorithms covered the allotted distance in a minute and 36.17 seconds, leading by five lengths, and was followed by the 2011’s champion two-year-old, Hansen, while third in line behind the winner was My Adonis.
Parke, who bred Algorithms said. “I thought he would win, but I was really blown away by how easily he won and how he did it. He took a deep breath and was very relaxed on the backside. Then he moved off and was still going away at the wire, so it
was pretty exciting.”
The three-year-old was right out of an allowance race that he won on 16thDecember, 2011 at Gulfstream Park raced over six and a half furlongs, and before that he had cleared his maiden on 3rd June, 2011 at the Belmont
Park, thus it was Algorithms’s seasonal debut victory in a graded race that he had contested in for the first time.
Keeping a drift the Kentucky Cup Juvenile and the Grade 1, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner, Hansen, was something that only Algorithms managed as otherwise Hansen’s record before the Grade 3, Holy Bull Stakes was unbeaten.
The three-year-old was bought by Mr. Wolf and his Starlight team, which also comprises of Frankie Brothers who was a former trainer, for $170,000.
“All of Ava Knowsthecode’s foals are lovely and he (Algorithms) was, too, but he was different from the rest because his head and neck didn’t sit quite as high on his shoulder and he moved a little differently,” Parke said.
Algorithms’s victory in the Grade 3, Holy Bull Stakes has culminated into positive and constructive publicity for Parke and Valkyre Stud. The victor being a colt of Ava Knowsthecode has taken up the value of the mare, and the offspring that is expected
anytime.
His connections have a long term plan in mind that leads to the Grade 1, Kentucky Derby eventually, which will be raced over 1 ¼ miles on dirt and is scheduled for 5th May 2012.
