Alhambra High boys volleyball team wins Diablo Foothill Athletic League opener against Las Lomas
It is not only at the university level that volleyball is taken up seriously. As the popularity of the game is increasing day by day in the nation, schools have inculcated vigorous training programs that aim to harness and polish the skills of the boys and
girls who are passionate about volleyball. These programs help the young players develop the potential to play competitively at the university level.
One team that features such talented players is the Alhambra High boys volleyball team. Alhambra competed with the Las Lomas boys team on Saturday and were able to snatch a victory for themselves out of the gruelling contest.
Even though the match only saw three sets being played, the game that took place between the two teams thrilled the audience. Despite the fact that they lost the match, the Knights gave Alhambra tough competition by bringing the score close in each set of
the match.
At the end of the day, as Alhambra was making its happy exit out of the court and the Knights were nursing their heavy hearts, the scoreboard summarised the way the match had unfolded by displaying final set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-23.
Both the attack and the defence of the Alhambra boys team played an important part in keeping the pressure on the Knights all through the match. They were able to put on an admirable offense that kept on hammering down forceful kills on the Knights.
The defence also did not shy away from contributing towards the victory that Alhambra was able to achieve in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League opener match.
The players that stood prominent in enabling Alhambra to seal the deal were Rich Manuli, Graham Lewis and Zack Walton. Manuli was able to put on a commendable show by posting eight kills in the entire match. He also supported his team by making seven blocks
for Alhambra.
Lewis earned himself the credit of registering digs that equaled four. Along with that, he also made 10 digs for his team. Walton made is presence felt by adding a total of four kills. These were accompanied by 11 digs as well as two blocks.
As soon as the first set of the match started, it became clear that both the teams would be competing to their core in order to achieve a win. For most of the set, Alhambra and the Knights were locked in a combat head with no team relenting.
However, as the game drew close to its final stages, it became clear that Alhambra would be able to take the first set of the game, which it did at 25-21. The next two sets also went the way Alhambra, who won them at 25-23 each.
Next in line for Alhambra is a match that is scheduled to be played on the coming Saturday.
